Exploring the Drinking Culture in Toronto: Frequency and Trends

What This Indicates:

  • Approximately 50% of adults abstain from drinking on a weekly basis.

  • About 30% engage in light or social drinking (1–6 drinks per week).

  • Approximately 15% consume alcohol more heavily (7+ drinks per week).


Local & Social Context:

  • A 2020 study from Ontario indicated that approximately 53.6% reported “high-frequency drinking” (once a week or more) over six months. Canada.ca

  • Among those who drink, the average frequency was about 3 days per week, with an average of 2.7 drinks per occasion. Canada.ca+1
